    Default hammond

    Hi All

Can anyone help me solve a puzzle please. I am trying to find the parents of my gggrandfather JAMES HAMMOND. He was born in 1836 in buxted surrey , i found him in the 1851 census living in wades place poplar with his widowed mum abigail and his sister mary ann and brother edward. Then i find him again in 1881 married to jane. I cannot find who his father was , i have tried marriage records for abigail and still cant find anyone by the name of hammond. Her maiden name was kendall born 1804 i did find one marriage to a henry spencer in 1825. but i cannot find another to a hammond.

Until i found him on the 1851 census i was thinking maybe i had the wrong name for his mum but it does say he is living with his widowed mother.

Has anyone got any other ideas

thanks for taking the time to read this thread

    HI starlight hi nanna

thank you both so much for your help. As James was not around in the 1841 census do you think he passed away or could he have been a serviceman, i know he definatly died by 1851.

    thanks again

    HI Starlight

Thank you so much for your help. On his birth registration you have the year as 1845 did you mean death reg?. As he died in poplar Tower Hamlets do you think it is possible that he could be buried in tower hamlets cemetery, The reason i ask is if he could be that would be amazing because my eldest sister is buried there she died in 1951 aged 22 mths . I visited the cemetery earlier this year and spent 2mths finding my sisters grave and that was not easy to do.

    Hi Angiee,

I am sorry, it was meant to say Death to confirm the one found on LDS site. I have corrected the original post. In my own tree I have found that families did tend to bury family members in the same place even if they had moved.

    hi starlight

I am going to try and find out if james is buried at tower hamlets because mum has always belived her daughter was the only member of our family buried there she had no idea until i started my tree that her own family came from poplar she was only living there herself because she was with my dads family if she could have my sister would have been buried in bermondsey with mums family but mum wanted her close to her at the time. now seeing the state the cemetery is in mum regrets her decision.

I wonder if abigail remarried she was widowed very young ,
