Thread: John Alexander Murray Davidson

Hi Ancestry helpers, Gt Gt Grandfather John Alexander Murray Davidson was a Clergyman, C of E. In 1851 he was St Mary Island Curate, Salt Gut P.O. Jamaica, (Clergy of the Diocese of Jamaica, Archdeaconry of Middlesex, Anglican). He married a Sarah Parker b. Jamaica in Jamaica, they had 12 children, all born in Jamaica bar 1 Gt Grandafather Richard Hugh Davidson B. 1859 Frieston Lincs. Sarah his wife sailed to England from Jamaica on RMC Steamer Nova on Aug 10th 1868 with 5 of her children, we believe John A M Davidson died between 1867 & 1871 possibly in Jamaica, as Sarah was a widow in the 71 census living at Stafford Place, Handsworth, Kingswinfold, Staffs. We also have the names of all 12 children & dob.

What we would desperately like to know is his place of birth & dob, also how do you go about finding info of relatives born & or living in Jamaica at that time and after.

Hope someone can give us some help as this has been a hard one to date, we believe that somewhere along the line there is Scottish Ancestry.

You seem to have quite a lot of info already so have you looked at these already for general info on Jamaican genealogy?

Click on Family History Library Catalog at familysearch.org and search on Jamaica to see what records they hold

Once again thanks very much Gillian, will look into those sites, it seems strange that we managed to gather all that info, although some was from other ancestors, but cannot find where he was born, perseverence is the word.
