Thread: Stanley / Stockwell

Hi All

Can anyone help me find the parents of two of my ancestors. I have been trying all weekend and i seem to be going around in circles. The first is my paternal great grandmother MARY STANLEY she was born aprox 1850 in blandford dorset. She married william henry stockwell in kensington 1873, no matter what i do i cannot find out who her parents where and i would love to know and add them to my tree.



Next is her father in law THOMAS STOCKWELL born aprox 1812 in st pancras london he married elizabeth coldrick in 1840 she died in 1856 then he married 2nd wife maria holding. thomas had 3 children with elizabeth. he worked for the GPO. i cant seem to find his parents either.

I will be very greatfull for any help anyone could give me

Have you considered this? Although this Mary is recorded as being born about 1853 it is a possibility as, we know how different census returns don't agree on the year of birth of our ancestors.

You are most welcome. I have found the family on the 1871 (Mary's not with them) and Theresa's name has changed to FRANCES it's definitely the same family as their birth towns match up, they are now living in Hampshire. If you'd like details ........ YELL!

Im YELLING............... for the info please lol. mary married my great grandfather in 1873 so maybe by 1871 she had already moved to london and thats how they met. Although they had 7 kids it sounds like they had a unusual marriage, he had many different names he sounds very dodgy and they spent the last ten years of their marrige apart he went to cambridgeshire dont know why. she stayed with kids in london he died and she lived for a further 5 years. Maybe thats why i cant find his dad maybe the whole family where dodgy lol

One of marys daughters was called betsy theresa maybe she named her after her mum.

wow thank you looks like theresa didnt know whether she was coming or going.

You are right the mysteries make it more interesting and i love trying to solve the mysteries and get a better idea of how they lived their lives back then, and what sort of personalities they had. I do find it facinating i have found some of my ancestors graves that took a lot of hard work , sometimes it was quite shocking . some cemeteries are so disrespected its sad.

when i find them i clean them and take pictures it has amazed my older living relatives.
