    Default Hickson

Could someone look for a daughter born to David and Mary HICKSON in 1842. I don't have a first name or a married name for her. She died in 1939 in England, age 97. She was probably born in Lincolnshire. David & Mary had at least 2 other children, Isaac b. 6 June 1856 and Elizabeth b. 22 Apr 1851. Both Isaac & Elizabeth died in the United States.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hi

There are 3 possible female births in lincolnshire in 1842. Have you located David on any census? What year did they go to the states?

The death in 1939....how did you come to this conclusion without a surname or 1st name?

Any other info you have may help in the search for this daughter

    Good Luck

    Thanks for the quick response.

Mary HAMMER's first Husband was David HICKSON. He died in 1858 in England. Her second husband was William DENTON who, as near as I can find, died in England in 1867. Their son, James William DENTON, was my great grandfather who came to the US in 1866 or 1867 with his mother and half sister Elizabeth HICKSON. His half brother Isaac HICKSON also came to the US, but I'm not sure when. My father's diary dated 17 Sep 1939 says "Grandpa Denton's sister who lived in England just died at age of 97". Her age indicates that she would have been born during the HICKSON marriage. Dad never did know how many children Mary had nor how many husbands. I've found 3 husbands - the last one was in the US and there were no children from that marriage. I don't know of any other children from the DENTON marriage except my great grandfather, James William (who went by Bill) who died in the US in 1953.

By the way, the information I have about David HICKSON is that his father was Abraham Hickson, but David was born David HARRISON. FamilySearch gives David's parents as Abraham HICKSON and Elizabeth GREENFIELD and lists other children as Abraham Harrison HICKSON, and William HARRISON. I'm not related to the HICKSON line except through Mary Hammer HICKSON, but a lot of them came to the same area that she came with my grgrandfather. The ones I've been in contact in the US don't seem to know the whole story either.

Why or why did these people keep using the same names over & over!!! (2 Betsy's and an Elizabeth!) I think the Betsy who died in 1939 must have been the one who was 17 in 1861. That would make her 95 at death. Then again, my dad could have gotten it wrong.

For the longest time, I thought Mary's maiden name was HICKS. I even have a prayer book that says "Mary Hicks, her book". The Hicksons here in Ohio helped me learn it was really Hickson.

Guess there's no way to be sure right now, but at least I can assume that the person my dad referred to was named Betsy. Everything I've seen about Mary's Denton husband shows him to be much younger than she was, so 27 may be right. He died in 1867, which would make him 34 at death.

    Thanks for the information.

I'm still trying to straighten out who's who. I know according to the Hickson genealogy that David & Mary were married in England, probably Bardney, and produced several children. Isaac and Elizabeth died in Morrow County OH. I'm still trying to find confirmation for David's birth parents, his marriage to Mary Hammer, and his death in England. I'm also trying to find when & where Mary's second husbnd, William Denton, died. There are sources that give his death as being in England, but I think that may be a different William. Sources in the US say he came with Mary, his stepdaughter Elizabeth, and his son James William and settled in Morrow Co, Ohio in around 1867. By 1870, Mary was married to a third husband.

I know for certain that William Denton's parents were Jonathan and Frances Swaby Denton, and that they lived in Bardney.
