Thread: death lookup please, hit a brick wall

please help. i've been looking for the death record of my great great grandfather whose name was John Thomas Roberts. I have his marriage certificate but after that he seems to have disappeared. i have no birth certificate either. it seems he appeared just to get married and then disappeared again. i believe he was born in Ireland, but i'm not sure, amd his wife's name was Mary Ann Gollop, a widower.



Any help would be grately received.

You didn't put any dates in your message. What do you know so far? Have you find him in any censuses and when and where did he marry?

As John Thomas was your g.g.grandfather then he and Mary must have had children, can you give us some names please? Also what ages are written for John and Mary on their marriage certificate? The more info you can give us, the better our chances of unearthing something for you. So post all you know and fingers crossed someone will find him/them for you.

they got married in the march quarter 1901. He was around 50 but i can't remember the exact age as i gave the marriage certificate to my gran. She was a couple of year younger and they are registered as living at pickle square, lyme regis. They had one daughter together and her name was Jessie.

What was the father's name and occupation on the marriage certificate? Have you found them in any of the censuses?

Not what you asked for but you might want to note a probable previous marriage for Mary Ann -

3/1885 Mary Ann Hodder to either William Gollop or Alfred Clarke Axminster 5b 33

yes gillian those are the right dates and she was married to hodder not clarke. she had two previous marriages before she married Roberts and then one more after. i don't think it said a profession. if it did he was a fisherman.

When is the last date you know he was alive?

Unfortunately it is a very common name - can you get the information from the marriage certificate re his age and occupation? As he doesn't appear to be on the 1901 census we probably need this information to help track him down
