Thread: Family history Online - Davies

I am trying to find information about my Great Grandfather Richard Davies born 1852/53 and his Father George Davies. I have the Census for 1881/91/01 and I have never sighted so much mismatched data before. This is what I know so far. In 1872 St Hilary Cornwall my Great Grandparents Richard Davies and Mary Ann Prisk said thier I Do,s. I have information on the Prisks but nothing on the Davies as far as where my Great Grandfather was really born. Each Census tells a different story. One Census has my Great Grandmother as being born in Lyons. No she wasn,t as she was born in St Hilary Cornwall. The 1901 Census for Greenwich gives Richard Davies (Davis) age 47 General Labourer as being born in Cornwall. The other Census have him as being born in Exeter and Devon. I have contacted the OPC for Cornwall and he cannot help me with this one. All I have is a Marriage Cert for 1872 giving both parties as living in Woodstock where ever that is or was and stating that my Great Great Grandfathers name was George Davies profession Sailor. On the 1881 Census it makes mention of a daughter Minnie but noone can seem to work out where she was born either. Minnie was my Grandfathers only sister.

I posted a thread a few weeks back regarding Davies and I am wondering if you can help me with any of them? The oldest children born to Richard and Mary Ann who were not born in London would be so much appreciated if you can find anything for them. Bye for now.

Will do Gillian. Each Census is different as to thier birth places but its them in all census. Also the Birth Cert came for Louisa Georgina Whitehead born 1874 Mothers name Ameila and she also shares the same surname as first wife Matilda. Must have been related but not sisters. Matilda was born in Deptford while Amelia was born in County Kerry. Ok will find the Davies Census for 1881

Ok Gillian I am looking at the Census right now for 1881. The family are living in Chapel St in the Cival Parish of East Stone House. The Ref at the bottom of the Census reads

RG 11/2203. The first name mentioned on these Census for 1881 is Annie Ayres. My family of Davies is recorded as Davis. Richard my Great Grandfather is aged 29 years and a Labourer.(Plymton) Wife Mary A shows she was born in Lyons. No she wasn,t as she was born in St Hilary Cornwall. Their children Minnie aged 6 years and Richard aged 4 years both born Devon Lydstow or Lydstone? Thanks for your help Gillian. I do have my Great Grand Parents Marriage Cert for 1872 and Richards Father was a George Davies profession Sailor. All this is stated on my first post. Bye for now
