they are not in the Colchester Meeting records for their births.

there is an intriguing family in Quaker records and I wonder if they are part of his family.



from my own research;

there is a William and Priscilla Hawkins of Coggeshall who have 3 children recorded in the Essex yearly meeting vital record index. they are not mentioned in Colchester Quakers.

although Matthew is not listed among these children, if William was alive in 1686, then it is possible that they are my Matthew's parents. however, the last child listed for William and Priscilla, Will Hawkins, was b. in 1672. more research is needed, and it may be that these are not Matthew's parents.

the reason I have placed a Priscilla for Matthew's mother is that a Priscilla Hawkins, Sr. is listed on his marriage record.

Christopher Hawkins was b. 28 Dec 1636 in Chelmsford, Essex, England, the son of John Hawkins

he m. 5 Nov 1674 in Great Coggeshall, Essex, England to Mary Guyon. they are not the Christopher and Mary on this marriage record, but are probably related.

on the marriage record of John Hawkins to Elizabeth Thorpe, Matthew is listed as a relative. unfortunately the record mentions neither of their parents. I believe Elizabeth's previous husband was Thomas Thorpe, and that her maiden name is Haskin. I also think it may be that the Haskin's and the Hawkins surname may be interchangeable, as I find in Colchester Quakers a Matthew Haskin and his wife Hannah with a son Matthew b. 1715. this matches my two Matthew Hawkins, and could be a duplicate record. also, though I can't find connections of the following names in the Thorpe and Hawkins listings in Colchester Quaker, I find almost all of them connected with the Haskin line-which may just mean they are all related to Elizabeth and I'm barking up the wrong tree.
