Are you talking about a death at sea? Deaths at sea 1854-1890 are on findmypast. Later ones are not on line but at the National Archives. Have a look at http://www.angelfire.com/de/BobSanders/Site.html for useful links on researching maritime genealogy including fishermen

Hi tromain - welcome to Ancestry Aid and the addictive hobby of family history! I have seen your post on the request board but have to go out in 5 minutes so cannot answer immediately - I'm sure someone else will do so though before I get back.
You might have a look at freeBMD for a start - you will need it sooner or later - births marriages & deaths 1837 to 1920s - not quite complete but nearly.

Very glad to have you - I was just worried whether the people it was aimed at would find their way in!
I remember it took me forever to learn to use even relatively simple sites like freeBMD and as for familysearch! - I still can't bear to think about it!

I would like to join this group ! I've had the computer for a wee while now, but can still get myself into a fankle over the simplest thing, so this looks like the very place for me, if you'll have me.
Well done for thinking this one up, Gillian. I'm sure it will be well received.

I guess like a lot of older members I started off completely computer illiterate and gradually progressed to my present just about semi-literate state! I was embarrassed to ask basic questions and just muddled through but it could have been so much easier and quicker.......
