Default Roland Russell

I am trying to find out where and when my Grandfather Roland Russell died. I know very little about him, he died when my mother was young and all I can remember is being told that he died in the First World War. Any help would be great.

I have a feeling I have looked for Roland before so apologies if I am repeating myself. If he was killed in the war he should be on the commonwealth war graves commision website. There are a number of R Russells - have you any idea what area of the country he came from - also what was his wife's name? (to help identify which could be him).

Hello Gillian

you probably have looked for Roland before as I think that I have probably asked before!
I have looked at the web site of the Commonwealth War Graves but I do not think he is on therre. he came from Yorkshire and his wife was Emma Hope(my maternal Grandmother) I am hitting a brick wall here, I have looked at deaths for Roland under the Yorkshire BMD just in case he was not killed in action, but there is nothing there either and I have found this to be a very good web site for Yorkshire look ups. This is like my quest for Richard Tebbs
surely there must be a record of the deaths somewhere out there!!!!

Thanks Gillian

Hi Brenda

I have searched England & Wales BMD between 1914-1920 and found two Roland Russells, although they arent in Yorkshire.

But then again if he was in the armed forces and injured in action, he could have died in a military hospital?!?!

Dec Qtr 1918 - Roland Age 30 Kingston Vol 2a Page 1118 (Surrey area)

Sep Qtr 1915 - Roland C Age 18 Axbridge Vol 5c Page 483 (Somerset area)

I would presume the first one is most likely...but perhaps only the actual certificate will prove or disprove

Good Luck

Thanks for looking everyone, not sure where to go from here. The Surrey Roland is the nearest in dates/age, I will try to follow up on that lead.

Hi
You can go to the Commonwealth War Graves Site and get information about anyone who was killed in action

Yes..thanks, I have tried that and he is not there.Someone suggested that he could have died in a Military Hospital, but in that case there should still be a grave somewhere.

Thanks for your reply
