    Hi there...

My Gt Gt Grandmother was Rachael Gomm born in Black Bourton, Oxfordshire in 1828. I have recorded the line so far back to the villages of Shipton-on-Cherwell, Islip, Hampton-Poyle.

does this match any of yours?

I am also interested in COCKHEAD from the same villages (Henry Cockhead married Rachael Gomm). Once again I have been able to go back to the 1600's.

I wish I knew. I have looked at Gomms and Gumms by the hundreds but still don't know where mine really came from. No Rachels anyway. Thomas, Rebeckah/Rebecca/Isaac/Elizabeth/Mary/ Dinah/ Henry/John/ Hannah/ MaryAnn/Charles. Bucks/Berks/ Surrey/Middlesex possibly Islip.

    Default Gomm

I would have thought DINAH would be the "give-a-way" Not that common a name.
There was a Dinah Gomm born 1791 in Buckinghamshire who married James Howard. She died in Amersham.

I would suspect it does link in with my GOMMS somewhere in the distant past as the areas are so close.
If I ever find out, I'll let you know....

(out of interest what dates do you have for your Isaac Gomm?)

    regards
    Haydn

      Hi The Grocer,
There were Dinah gomms born Bledlow Bucks and in Seend too.
But the Dinah you mention in 1791 might well be linked to mine who seeemed to be Gomm and later Gumm. It is possible she may have been Thoma's younger sister
Isaac was born 1817 in Ham Surrey and died there aged 2. Dinah was his sister. She died aged 4in 1826 Rebecca was Isaac's twin. She was my 2xgreat grandmother. her father was Thomas who was a widower when he wed Johannah Jones(also a widow) at Cookham Berks Their first child was born 1808. Twins figure in the family.
I have gone all ways with these thinking they were of the Guildford Gumms but a) the Guildford Gumms were wealthy and b)the only marriage found for a Thomas Gumm and a Johannah is that of Thomas Gomm. The children were all baptised as Gumm in Ham Surrey.
Any ideas you can come up with will be very gratefully received.
There is a Gumm thread on here somewhere as Poleta gave me a lot of help but I am still stuck.

Thanks! Yes that is my RebeKah's sister. Elizabeth 1814. baptised Kingston as all were ( except Henry who was born there but baptised in Harmondsworth Middlesex) . She had a hard life as did her daughter Rebecca.
See all the same names! (Ham was part of Kingston)
Another sister Mary Ann seems to have been the only one who stayed lived and died in Ham. She too had twins. Henry had twins.
Tell me please where did you find that Dinah gomm born 1791?

I am so glad you joined us here!!
And thank you for that site as I have never seen it before. It is excellent.
(I found them on the Ships list site)
