Thread: Birth look up please

I am looking for the birth of my Gr gr grandmother Phoebe(Phebe) Jane Davis she was born around 1839 in either Dudley or Birmingham. She Married in 2 jul 1863 in Aston Birmingham to a George deVall. I don't know much about her and i have no information on who her parents were someone sent me a message through genes reunited saying we were distant relations through Phoebe and her parents were a Edward Davis and a Phoebe but things did not add up so i am unsure about this and i cant remember why because i have been daft and lost my notes on it.

Any help would be great i am still a bit of a beginner and don't know where in this case to start by ordering certificates.

i would start by getting her marriage certificate with her fathers name and occupation on it to be sure.

If you look on the Free BMD you will find a birth in the last quarter of 1840 ( i.e.under December) of a Phebe Davies born in Dudley.
The cerificate no. is there.
You can then write to Dudley reg. office for the certificate giving all the details you have --be sure to do that as you don't want to pay for an incorrect certificate-costs about £8.
It takes a little while to get the hang of the Free BMD but once you've cracked it it's very easy ---Good Luck!

Thanks for that i will have a look and hopefully i will solve my Phoebe Davis mystery. I have tried free bmd but i dont know if i have the hang of it yet
