I am trying to find out information on my Grandad (George H Todd) He was born 29th June 1902 in Shotley Bridge, Durham, he dies 30th May 1980 in Stevenage. He married my grandma on 19th June 1942 in Ipswich.
Grandma left his approx 50 years ago so I never met him and have only a few stories she has told me and a couple of photo's I know he was in the Royal Auxillary and after he finished his service he was a painter and decorator till he retired. I have a copy of his death and marriage certificate and there are no details of his mother of father and I found out yesterday he has a sister also. I have requested his birth certificate but as he was probably adopted (along with his sister) I think the records are sealed ![]() Please, if anyone can help me I would really appreciate it, I cannot find anything about him at all. |

Hi Lynnette
I may be possible to get his service records, though I understand that it can be a lengthy process and you have to pay a non-refundable fee. information on it here http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_...records.html#3 The May 08 copy of the "Your Family Tree" magazine had an article on Adoption records Hope this is helpfull |

Hi Lynette
You say that you have ordered your Grandads birth certificate but believe that he and his sister were adopted. If you ordered a birth certificate in the name of Todd and this was his adopted surname, unfortunately you may receive a negative response with your certificate order as his birth certificate would have been registered in his original birth name. Adoption files are generally kept open for apx 75 yrs and for siblings trying to gain information it is extremely hard, (I know from experience). I am guessing you are trying to gain information on his birth parents and not his adopted parents? Are you able to speak with your Grandma or his sister and ask for any further information? Also, marriage certificates usually state the full name and occupation of the Grooms father - was this left blank? Best wishes Annie |

Unfortunately my Grandma died in June, which is what started me on finding out about my family history.
I found out that George had a sister from my sister a couple of days ago and have no idea what her name is so thats abit of a lost cause at the moment unfortunately. On the marriage certificate both parents details were left blank, so I don't know where to go next. My grandma left him when my mum was approx 8/9 which was about 52 years ago so I can't even ask my mum anything about him. |
