Tomi the lady in question could very well have married by 1901? Do you know who she married even if its just a first name? There are a good few marriages on freebmd for Louisa Elliott from 1881/1901. I will help you if I can but can you give me something more to go on.

Hi Marion - No idea who she was married to although the one you suggested from bmd could well be it, as her sister also got married in Hackney. In previous census of 1881 she was listed as being born in Shoreditch, which is also in borough of Hackney. In 1881 she was living in Stoke Newington with her family.

Tomi if you have her sisters Marriage Cert for Hackney then it will tell you her Fathers name and profession. I have supplied you the info for a Marriage for Hackney so the only way is to get that Cert and confirm the Fathers name and see if it matches up. Also the address might be the same as for the sisters. Once confirmed and this Louisa is yours then I can help you with the 1901 Census. You need that Marriage Cert Tomi. I cant see any other way around it.

Have a nice day Tomi and do get back to me if you need anymore help

Tomi I have tried to search for you another way but without a Marriage Cert its somewhat difficult... I wonder if your Louisa was born Emma Louisa? One of the surnames for the marriages I posted was Toy. I found this for Hackney but I,m not sure. Its a long shot you might say.

I will still have another look but really the Marriage Cert would confirm as you seem to have some knowledge of Louisa,s sister.

Tomi I checked the 1891 Census to see if Louisa might still be on the same Census as her Parents. No she wasn,t but I did find her Mother Rosetta living in Hastings. I see her Mother by birth was a Cockney. My Father was born in Clerkenwell. Do you have this one for Rosetta?

Tomi if your order that Marriage Cert and its your Louisa then all systems go.

If there is anything else I can help you with will be glad to do so. I will wait to hear back from you.

Marion, thanks for the super search!!!!

Only information I have of Louisa is that she was born March quarter of 1861 in St George in the East, daughter of James Warren Elliott and Rosetta Lydia (nee Bourne) who lived in East End all through out and were millinery and straw bonnet manufacturers - although James Warren Elliott worked in all sorts from foreman of Wine Vaults, Dock Clerk and Merchants - 1881 he was a Cooper, making barrels. Two of her sisters Alice Rosa Elliott and Sarah Louisa Elliott married their cousins on their mother's side of the family named Makeham, Rosetta's mother was Lydia Makeham. I think they were quite well off by 1881 as they had 2 servants and Louisa's brother, my great great grand father Frederick John Elliott was quite wealthy by then as well being millinery manufacturer, having factories in Luton, Atherstone and also warehouse in Golden Lane, Clerkenwell. I have managed to find out most of the family apart from Louisa - as you can guess being a relatively a common name without a middle name, its difficult to search who she married etc etc. I guess there is also a probability that she could have got married outside the East End, even out of London as well...... What a nightmare!!

Tomi if you can think about getting the Marriage Cert the details which I posted, you will then find out if it is your Louisa of not. You have so much information to go on which your have gathered along the way which is a bonus for you. The Rosetta in Hastings I found was born in Clerkenwell and I believe she to be yours. Clerkenwell was not a well off area and was sometimes known as Cheap Side. On my Fathers Army Records it states his place of Birth as Clerkenwell Cheap Side. Its real Cockney Land. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I,m getting ready to go to work. 5.02am Here in OZ. Bye
