Sorry, I thought you meant you couldnt find any trace of Joseph and his wife..

I looked on the IGI but nothing jumped out for a baptism for Joseph and as Im not familiar with the area I dont know of any on line parish records for Cumberland but maybe someone else on here will.

Honeysuckle,

Is that the right family which Light has provided you with on the 1881 census with children Elizabeth, Margaret Ann and Tom?

Hello Light,

Yes, I also found Joseph as a Widower on the 1871 census. As you had provided the 1881 census with a daughter Elizabeth Thompson born about 1865, I tried following her.

As Joseph Thompson was aged 59 on the 1881 census and his wife Margaret aged 47 (12 years difference in their ages), I thought Margaret could have been Joseph's second wife.

In the 1861 census there's a Joseph (a Stone Mason) and his wife Hannah. The children seem to fit as well. In the 1851 census there's a Joseph (a Lead Miner) with wife Hannah and her mother Ann Cousin/Cousen. There's also the marriage of a Joseph Thompson and Hannah Cousin.

We'll have to wait and see Honeysuckle's reply to see if we are on the right track.
