You are right though, for the number of people that said they would add if it came back the response is not very good.

Thank you Starlight.

Would it be fair to point out that, if a member wishes to add to the BMD records, and that member does not possess proper documentation for an entry, but is purely relying on sound 'family knowledge', would it be permissable to do this ?

Please excuse this somewhat convoluted sentence.

If this is permissable, would it not be a reasonable ldea to have this stated on the "Free BMD" page ?

Have to admit that I'm rather disappointed too that not many people are downloading their BMDs after all the hard work that Jon has done. Like Starlight, I've also added over 300, so there's over 600 just between 2 of us. So COME ON PEOPLE, get those fingers flying.

Popping over to free bmd to add some more.

I've added 118 so far, still got loads to do, but have been away this past week, so could have been more and like Star have been busy with other things.

Hi Chohrge,

I am not sure that would be a good idea unless you know the information is correct. I am finding that information I was given by family members is not 100% true.
If you are certain the information is correct you can add information to the note box and give the name of the person as the sourse.

I have a lot of parish records to add. With the Baptisms most only give the mother's first name. Although I have the maiden name from marriage records I am not adding the name to the birth record but keeping it as found in the parish records.
Although I think I have joined my tree correctly I may not have done and don't want to pass on mistakes. Members can always make contact for more information if they think they may have a connection.

If you have dates of Birth, Baptisms, Marriages, Death or burials they can all go on.
You may have been given information but not have a certificate. You can still use this as long as you give the source of your information.
Any parish records that you have looked up can also go on there. The early ones will have very little information but this doesn't matter.

e.g John Jackson born 14/12/1734 to John and Elizabeth - Upham

By putting this information in you will find there are a lot of gaps but it doesn't matter. Families tended to stay in the same parish for longer periods in those times so anyone looking for the name Jackson in Upham probably has found a connection. Not all parishes are on the LDS site so anyone that has needed to look up the parish records probably has information not recorded there.

I for one, have slacked in adding all proffessions to my tree so when I get the time I can go back and add some more information to bmd's.

May I make a couple of points :-

1. I am never sure where exactly is the correct place to post a thread.
I am so glad that the administrators 'move' mis-placed threads appropriately.

2. With reference to "
FREE BMD RECORDS SEARCH AND SUBMIT", this is going to take a huge number of members and a vast amount of time to get these data bases up to a 'searchable' level.
We are really talking about getting 'millions' of submissions into these records.

So.

Do you think that it is reasonable to say :- "Let's come back for a search, say in 2018" ?

.....after all, think of the GRO data base.

.......... or is this a frivolous question ?

We will be interested to know your thoughts on this.

Final point - I have selected "Quote" under
:-

""Starlight
Ancestry Aid Manager""

.... and I just wonder where it will appear ??

'''and absolutely ' final point' .
I promise that I am not trying to be bolshie about this. I am just a little skeptical
.

Hi Chohrge, (p.s I am not Anny)

We started this a while ago and got to over 5,000 quite quickly. The Parish records being transcribed before 1837 and the Graveyard transcriptions will never be on the G.R.O index. It is not just for certificates, it is for any names transcribed by members. These are not always for their own trees. Quite a few members do lookups at records offices and libraries for others but have no use of the information themselves.

When I visit a graveyard I try to transcribe or photograph as many headstones as I can, they do not always belong to me...but I think ...hey they may be useful to someone one day and also, it is such a shame that some graveyards are not as well tended as others...and a lot of stones are now weather worn...another piece of history disappearing before our eyes.

Again, when I visit the Archives, i tend to transcribe quite a chunk of the registers....not all pertaining to my tree.

It all takes time doing the above so when a project like Jon has created on AA comes along it feels worthwhile doing all those transcriptions.....and hopefully someone will be fortunate enough to search and find their long lost ancestors.

I am hoping that over the summer (?) months I can revisit these graveyards to take more photographs (I only tended to take photos of my own rellies graves) so that, if someone does find a rellie, I can email them a photograph

So come on all you members.....carry on submitting your info

Hi,
I've made a start, and added some BDM's to the site, but how do you add other info, the form that is on there is all about the certificate info. How do you add something like a gravestone or something like this please?
Thank you
Pam
