Thread: Worhouse query

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes.

I knew my Mums cousins were brought up by other members of the family after their parents died but on my home town site under the Workhouse section there's mention of payment being made concerning these children and the families who they went to live with classed as foster parents. These payments weren't made over a long period of time but I couldn't work out whether the children were originally in the workhouse and that's how come payments were made or whether it was payments made to the families via the Guardians of the Poor. Can anyone enlighten me ?
I've looked on the Workhouse site and can't find anything that explains it.
