Does anyone know how I could do this ? I've got a couple a photographs that were among Dads things, both females. One is postcard size the other is a bit larger and does have a resemblance to my gran. They must have been someone in the family as they seem to have been taken care of so well. One has the photographers name on it but they have long since disappeared and I would love to know if its my gt.gran. The clothing fits the age. The postcard one is a bit different in clothing and I doubt they're the same people.
I would love to be able to give these ladies a name. Mums had a look and she hasn't a clue.

Mary I posted some sites today in 'links & tips', which give advice on dating & identifying photo's & postcards...they might help?? I'm not sure exactly how you would go about getting an actual name for the person on the pic...unless you post on a local website & hope that someone comes forward who recognises the person on the photo??

I looked at the links and tips Helen..........very interesting and a great help. Thats what started me off again on these photos. I can date them ok but who the dickens are they ?
I'd like to think one of them is Great Grandma but can't name it just in case.

Any aunts, uncles, cousins etc you could ask?

We have a big box of photos. Dad knows who some of the people are, but not all. Towards the end of last year I got in touch with somebody on Genes Reunited who turned out to be the wife of a 2nd cousin I didn't know. So we got to emailing each other and scanning & sending pictures. I helped her name a few people (including my Great Grandfather) in her pictures and she helped me with a few. You just never know where help could turn up!

Good luck If only our ancestors had written on the back of photos... Saying that, I haven't written on the back of any photos I've take either, so I'm just as bad.

Any of the other relatives who might have known these ladies aren't around anymore but I've just thought..............rellie I just located from the same area has parents still living. Not sure they would know though as the photographs are much older than they are.
I always write on the back of mine..........always have done with dates as well. Oh why didn't our rellies do that
