Default Contacting my gt gt grandfathers ancestrial home.

Putting pen to paper I have just written a letter to the propriorters of the George and Dragon public house to see if they have any pictures of past inn keepers, this pub was where my gt gt grandad worked as an Inn keeper. It would be quite interesting to see some pics from the past to the present day. One never knows cause a lot of pubs have pics hanging on the wall of the history of the pub.

I have also started to write a story following my ancesters from residency, occupation, marriage and children to passing on. Still got a lot of writing to do though.
It's all thanks to members off this Forum who helped me find some ancesters that I couldn't find and in particular Sarah Hollinshead who I knew nothing about. So when I become a famous author writing about my ancestrial roots I'll think about you guys LOL. No I will honestly.

Sounds like a good project Pauline. We could all do with writing a bit more about our ancestors.......makes them come alive (oops.....is that the wrong phrase ?) I'm sure you know what I mean. One of my rellies I met at the weekend is doing something similar.
Good luck with the ancestral home quest.
I sneaked about outside my Grans old house at the weekend and took a few photos of how it is now its been 'modernised'. Hadn't got the nerve to knock on the door and ask them if I could see what they had done inside it.

(AKA Mary)

How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards...

Awww Mary, you should have knocked on the door, but then it's probably beter to remember the cottage as it was when your gran lived there Sometimes though your inquisision gets the better of you. Go on be a devil, next time you pass your grans house just knock on, I doubt they are going to chase you down the path with a yard brush.

I'll let you know when I get a letter back from either the pub or the brewery what they say. I was courteous and sent them an s.a.e. They'll get the letter in the morning
even though I have gone back almost 150 years.

Thanks Loz, It's just a matter of the wait now. Oh I also emailed the Macclesfield Registry Office to with an ammendment to Sarah's Surname, cause after cross checking with the cheshire bmd and the free bmd I got Holland for cheshire and Hollinshead on free bmd and of cause you was right, they are going to amend the name, I would have thought the cheshire bmd would have got it right cause Sarah was born in Cheshire.

Hi Pauline,

Just wondering if any of your Hollinshead's came to Australia. I have some in my tree starting with Joseph born c 1800 in England. Not sure which county he came from but I find it curious that he had a son Jonathon which is the same name as your Sarah's father, not an uncommon christian name I know but certainly not common as it is usually John. Joseph, George and Jonathon seems to have been family names.

Out here the spelling seems to have become Hollingshead or Hollingshed.

Just curious.

Hi Kate,

Not sure if any Hollinsheads went over to Australia, most of my Hollinsheahd's seemed to have settled in the vicinity of Cheshire, however that is not to say that maybe Jonathan (Sarah's dad) didn't have brothers that moved to Australia.
I'll just keep going and maybe something will turn up unexpectedly.

I so agree with Mary, it is sometimes easy to get so engrossed in the data that we forget that we are researching real people who led real lives.

Your project sounds excellent Pauline and I hope that your enquiries bear fruit.

My wife's ancestors ran a large Pub called the Grapes in the centre of London and I had similar thoughts, but sadly the Pub no longer exists.

Good luck and please keep us updated.

Good luck with your project Pauline. I wonder if prisons kept photo's of their inmates. I'd have more luck with that than with publicans in my tree.

Thanks Bazzar and starlight, I will keep you posted on the outcome It's quite exiting really.
Awww starlight would be good if you found just one ancestrial home other than a profile with a number.
