Default Unknown Aunt.

I was looking through my family tree, and got to thinking that the gap between my fathers birth and that of his sister (my aunt) was a bit long for those days. Dad was born 1908 and his sister Alice in 1913. A quick look at the birth registers for 1908-1913 soon turned up a girl with the Christian names Gladys May. The mothers maiden name was correct, so the cert was sent for. Lo and behold the parents names, and the address were correct, I had got an unknown aunt.

I have since found a death registration for the same girl at age 10, so have sent for that cert.

The odd part is, my father never mentioned this sister, and, after the death of my grandmother around 1913 (death reg never found) my grandfather took up with another woman, they never married, but they did have a daughter together, and her Christian names were Gladys May. How odd is that.
