I have recently discovered that my GGG Grandfather - John Grindell, was a Master Mariner & Ship Owner from Knottingley in West Yorkshire.

He part owned a Schooner, a round sterned carvel & clench built wooden sailing ship called 'ECLIPSE', a Sloop which was also a round sterned carvel & clench built sailing ship called 'JOHN and ELIZABETH', a Sloop which was a round sterned wooden sailing ship called 'MARY and ANN'. He also fully owned a Sloop called 'SPRING RICE' & had part share in another Sloop called 'BENJAMIN and MICHAEL'.

John is mentioned in a local history book called 'Mariners of Knottingley', written by Ron Gosnay.
