I have very little information about this, so it could be true or not.....but supposedly one of Grandmother's brothers went to the US in the early part of 20th Century, and was a bootlegger! Would love to be able to find out more

I'm a new member but I live in the US. Believe it or not there are still modern day bootleggers( at least here in Alabama). Send me a name and possible location and maybe I can find something out > I doubt it as bootleggars were are are still very private people, unless they were caught and made the newspapers.

Hi Dixie Daisy
I didn't realise bootleggers still operated! Is that because there are still "dry" areas in the US? As I said I don't really have any hard information about this. Grandma had 3 brothers, and I think it was Jack who went to the US, and I would assume he went to New York. His surname was Palinsky or Palchitsky, but it appears from other records that I've found that most of her brothers and sisters changed their names, so it could have been anything!! Not much to go on....which is why I've never tried to pursue it. Don't worry, I'm not expecting you to follow this up!! ) |
