My great, great,great granddad Stephen Churchill was born in Wareham, Dorset, aged 14 he was in Wareham workhouse with two brothers described as an orphan but his mum is still alive and has her daughters and one son living with her. Aged 18 he is on board ship described as a seaman. Family legend reports that he wore an earring to the end of his days and later census finds him now living in Durham and working in the mines. We can't help wondering how the rough, tough miners took to his earring!
