    Hello puddin 6

First census is 1851 up to 1891 the year he died he was called battensby and his father was william battensby
Can you post a census ref so the members can pick him up on the census, you state that he lived in Trimdon Durham, yet other information suggest he may be found in the London area, is this correct?

    Hi puddin16

Yep you're correct I took a second look and it is Boot Maker! Must go to specsavers again!

Durham Records are usually very good but I couldn't find anything about his birth/baptism.

    I'll take another look.

    Hi again,

Well I'm still on William's case and I've found (with a little help from a friend!) a possible candidate in the 1841 census, so take a look............

William aged 22 - shoe maker - not born in this County
Richard aged 12 - born in Yorkshire
Mary aged 38 - Not born in this County -

residing at Yarm, Yorkshire - comes under the Stockton-on-Tees/Sedgefield registration district.

He might not be your William but the occupation would fit in nicely!

    See what you think

    Hi Puddin16,

    Result!!

If you have access to Ancestry there are 2 public member trees on there with William Battensby and his family with all the censuses etc.

First public member tree is called - ROBERTS NEW TREE
    Second tree - WILTON TREE

The 1841 census that I found is YOUR William living with the Appleton family. Unfortunately, these public member trees only have William's father and no mother listed. No other info as yet but I will keep looking for you. The tree's list Ann as William's wife and their marriage details etc

    Hope this helps,
Merry Xmas and A Happy New Year
