Thread: McClinton..Killyleagh, County Down.

Hello, I am looking for parents and siblings of Samuel McClinton, born about 1785 in County Down and married in 1808 to Margaret Torney born about 1787. They had eight children all born in Killyleagh or Ballyalgan. Of the eight, five left in the mid 1800's for Canada, leaving behind parents and 3 married sisters. Mary born 1814 in Killyleagh married 7 November 1835 in Killinchy to John Gowdy. Isabelle born 1820 in Killyleagh and married 1845 in Raffrey to James Patterson. Ellen born 1824 in Killyleagh, married 18 February 1842 in Killinchy to John Wallace. Ellen and John Wallace had a son that I know about, Robert Gowdy born 21 March 1847 in Killinchy. Hoping to find a connection with someone who may be familiar with this line and help me with my brickwall, Samuel McClinton and Margaret Torney. Thanks....Dave.

I found your post searching google. I've recently started to document my family tree and was researching the McClinton branch today. I've mostly been looking at the McClintons in Wakefield, Quebec, Canada. Samuel McClinton and Margaret Torney are 7 generations from myself, and I didn't know about them so it was fun research today.

So I found the name of Samuel McClinton's father, it's John [no date of birth/death].
I found this info on RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Brown Family Tree
"According to an entry in the 1827 Killyleagh Parrish Church of Ireland Tithe Applotment Book, John McClinton owned a 21 acre farm in Ballyalgan, Killyleagh, Co. Down."

From same site,
Margaret Torney's father was also named John and "According to an entry in the 1827 Killyleagh Parrish Church of Ireland Tithe Applotment Book, John Torney owned a 6 acre farm in Ballyalgan, Killyleagh, Co. Down."

hello... to my limited knowledge, my ggrandfather, Albert mcclinton's father was named john and was a landowner,in 1827, in ballyalgan,killyleagh,county down ireland..i really haven't much info(factual) except my ggrandfather was albert mcclinton, and he married constance sarah sharpe in the uk...does anyone know if this is the john mcclinton mentioned in previous messages? thanks...s. doehle
