Looking for information on McAleny/McAleney/McAleaney
I wonder if anyone can shed any light on a little (massive) problem I'm having connecting my Family Tree back To Ireland ie Donegal. My GGGgrandfather William McAleaney came from Ireland to live with his son Daniel in Birkenhead 1876 to1881 as he appears on the 1881 census but unfortunately he died in 1883 in Birkenhead ,and thats all the info we have on him but cannot trace him or Daniel back to a specific place in Ireland.
According to age on Death Certificate he was Born around 1807 to 1812 roughly.
Daniel McAleaney (GGgranda) his Son was married to Anne Shields both born in Ireland btwn 1830 to 1833 respectively but again no place name.Daniel was a Shipwright.
They had 11 Children as follows,
William McAleaney Dob 1852 Scotland Unkwn
Anne " " 1854 Ire - 1877 BirkenheadEng.
had son Edward Deeny Dob 1876 in Lndndrry to Hugh Deeny.
Elizabeth McAleaney Dob 1856 BKHead Eng.
Daniel " " 1859 " " "
John McAleaney " 1860 " " "
George " " 1863 " " "
Mary " " 1865 " " "
James " " 1867 Bkhead - 1951 Kings NY
cant find much about James any Ideas.
Thomas McAleaney Dob 1869 BKHead Eng.
Bernard " " 1872 " " " GGrandad
Edward Albert " " 1875 - 1875 BKHead Eng.
As you can see they all had different places of birth but the Irish connection is not clear. Also their spelling was different to mine as you say on the clonmany site mine is McAleny, but going through the record for them there were several different spellings again.
Any Advice or help would be greatly appreciated and if you need any help in this area dont hesitate to contact me. Sorry this went on a bit
Awaiting any reply
Thanks
Stephen McAleny.
