Thread: My Devon lot

My main family in Devon is the Lock family of East Stonehouse (Plymouth) and prior to there I have my Lock's back to 1763 in the town of Dartmouth.

Jon, I wonder if you may hold the key to my Lock mystery.

According to census returns, Hannah Lock was born in Kingswear c 1808, but I have yet trace of her baptism. I believe she has also eluded other researchers.

She married John Rendle in Kingswear in 1832 and of their 11 children, 3 were given Lock as a personal name. Mary Ann Lock Rendle (1835 - 1st daughter), Thomas Lock Rendle (1848 - 8th child) and George William Lock Rendle (1854 - 11th child).

I have details of a number of earlier Lock BMDs in Kingswear and the baptism of Mary, daughter of Thomas and Mary, on 6 July 1811, in Kingswear, which is about as close as I have got.

I know that Lock appears regularly in the records of adjacent parishes, including Dartmouth, and wondered if any of this links in with your family. A long shot, I know, but the answer must be out there somewhere.
