    Default WARRENS in THORVERTON, DEVON

I am looking for the birth details for William Warren b.1831 in Thorverton, Devon.

The only William Warren I could find was born in Thorverton in 1831 was born on 26 June 1831 and died 4 July 1831.

I have his marriage certificate to Esther Davis in Middlesex, London on which states his father as Henry Warren a Thatcher by occupation. (William's occupation was Painter / Plumber).

This family is not the family in Tiverton who are publicans & were still living there in 1861 when my William was living in Middx.with his family.

His wife Esther Davis was born in Salisbury Wiltshire & I have all her info but I cannot find any information on William.

Any help would be most grateful.

    Thank you

The William Henry buried at Thorverton in mid 1831 was 7 months old and came from Exeter (where he was christened at the end of 1830), so he was not your William baptised (and probably born) in July 1831.

You probably know that Henry, the thatcher, and Betsy had other children in Thorverton between the mid 1820s and 1838, but they had left the parish before the 1841 census, so there's no indication of their ages. However, it's likely that Henry was the Henry baptised in 1792, the son of Robert, also a thatcher, and his wife Sarah. They were doubtless the Robert Warren and Sarah Harris who married in 1776, and since Robert was buried at the age of 73 in 1822, he must have been the Robert, son of Robert and Mary, who was baptised in 1750.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi Ambra

I cannot thank you enough for the info you have given me. I had the completely wrong wife and no siblings. I will try again.

Hopefully, I may be able to trace them by their children names etc.

Any idea how many children they had during mid 1820s and 1838?

    Thank you again

    Dear Jelli,

Henry and Betsy's WARREN children at Thorverton were Marianne (1826), Henry Samuel (1829), William (1831), and Samuel Johnson and Thomas jnr (both 1838). None of these was buried in Thorverton, so there'd be a good chance of finding them elsewhere in later censuses (in fact your William looks like the William who was in London at the 1881 census).

There's a Militia List of 1817 which shows three Warrens, all unmarried and apparently living in the same house so presumably brothers. They were John (c.33), William (c.30) and Henry (c.23). These names and ages all fit with sons of Robert, the thatcher, so you can be virtually certain that this was your thatcher Henry, that Robert was his father, and that Henry was the one baptised in 1792.

    Dear Ambra

WHAT A BIG THANK YOU I OWE YOU. I have been searching for my father's family for a very long time. You have been so kind in finding this information for me. I am celebrating my 50th wedding anniversary next month so will be seeing my siblings. What great news I have to tell them.

I must admit I do not know anything about 1817 Militia List (History was not my favourite subject) but you have given me energy to carry on with my family history. I have searched the internet for 1817 Militia List but sadly no success.

Please can you advise me in how I can get copies of the information you have given me. Can this be done & if so, where do I apply? Obviously you must be aware that I am rather a novice at this.

I have found William's (b1831) marriage & 1859 when his first son was born but then could not get back any further but thanks to you I now have that information.

Thank you so much again Ambra & Ancestry Aid Genealogy.

    Regards

    Jelli
