    Hi Pips

Have found this site very helpfuly for tracing Cornish relatives & it's free.

    http://west-penwith.org.uk/index.htm

In "Search for Resouces" in top right corner type in your family name & it will return any census results for that surname. It is still being developed by volunteers but a great starting place.

Otherwise you can't go past this if you don't already have it.

thank you. I am aware of the Penwith site. My 10 x g grandfather's will from 1647, is posted on there. A brilliant site to visit.

I also use the IGI Batch Nos for the Cornish Parishes.

    Hi Pips,

My G. Grandfather was called Samuel Reynolds born in 1861 (?)

in Bodmin. I have recently been told that he probably was originally a Runnalls. His father was named John. Have you any ideas on the name changing that went on. I do know that Rennalls became Runnals and then Runnalls - confusing or what !!!

If there is a connection between your Reynolds and Runnals and mine please let me know.

    Regards,

    Maureen.

    Hi Maureen.

My 4 x g grandmother, was a Runnalls, she was born in 1775 St Breward, near Bodmin.

I have come across several variants of the spelling of Runnalls.

Have you found John on the census ?

    Happy New Year

    Hi Pips,

Well with the help of a David Coppin he has sent me some info. John Renals or Runnalls married Eleanor Warn or Warner. I do have copies of the census records. Samuel my G Grandfather married Agnes Annie Brace in Staffordshire in 1889. Why he went there I don't know and why he changed the spelling of his name is a mystery. Between 1882 and 1884 he moved with his family to Devonport. His thrid child was named Eleanor Kate Reynolds who was my Grandmother - so the Eleanor fits in with this family. On Samuel's marriage he stated that his father was an overlooker and I presumed in the tin mines but it turns out that an overlooker was the top of the bottom of the heap in most jobs.

I have been searching since 1996 for Samuel so I hope that I am on the right track. If you can offer any more help it would be great.

    I will try Maureen.

Re Staffordshire, my relatives, who moved there, were involved with the china clay and pottery industries.

Re the spelling of Runnalls .. I am told, it depended on how the enumersator personally spelled and the dialect of those speaking the name..

I will take a look over the next few days.
