Went to visit Mum today..lol..bless her she can be very "forgetful" and can never remember anything about family...."..ohh it was so long ago..I don't know.."

Anyways, every few weeks over the past 7 years I have been asking questions...and only getting smidgings of answers, soo I plod on as ya do do.

Today I asked about her Grandad....ahh James Herbert you mean...yase Mum about which year did he die?

Ohhh sed me Uncle....I was about 21...I remember I was working in Leeds....ahhh success at last I thought.

Mum added her two'pennorth....then went off to make a cuppa

Uncle sez to me....your Mums got some photos you know...

NOO I say she hasnt. Ohh YES she has he replied

Well every time I ask to look at her photo albums...SHE gets them out of cupboard for me....so i thinks.... here's my chance.....pmsl

I opened the cupboard doors...and there lurking in the back were LOADS of old photos I have NEVER seen before

I was in geno heaven!

Mum came back and said..ohh I thought i'd shown you these....so we all starts looking through them...an Mum an Uncle were naming them...got a lovely photo of me Gt Grandad and Gt Granny

THEN......I came across a pouch with papers in.....you'll never guess what they were????

Gt Grandads birth certificate (14 Feb 1874 ) Their marriage cert (23 feb 1897) and both death certificates! I was ecstatic!! Ohhh Mum why you never showed me these before.

Ya dint ask, she said PMSL she knows i been researching for yonks!!

Anyway thats the GOOD News..now for the BAD

You know how the 1st rule in geno is to confirm with certs?? well I didn't

My Gt Gran Florence King....well I had her father as being Walter....taken from census infos.....I have researched Walter through his 3 marriages.....various kids...and his tracks across Sheffield...only to find today that her FATHER is JOHN KING!

I have spent the rest of the day looking for me Gt Gt Grandad John!!!

Ahhh well all in a days life of a geno!!! (i obviously not genius!)

BUT am well pleased with all the certs and photos!!

Loz

Hiya Loz....congrats on your find, & at least you have the correct rellies now. I had a similar thing with my mum last week, she said she'd dug some photo's out & didn't know if they'd be any good to me?? When we started going through them....she suddenly remembered things, like names & places & dates that she previously couldn't remember. She's given me photo's of my G Grandfather's boats as he was a ship owner & master mariner, photo's of other relatives, there's some of the different houses that G Grandma's etc have lived in, mum then recognised & remembered addresses & photo's of the family annual holiday to Blackpool. The holiday ones amaze me as I can remember growing up with all my great aunts whinging about each other, yet they all played happy families once a year, when they all had a week away together!!!

Anyway, I've now to find away of mounting them....it doesn't help that my mum glued them into her photo albums years ago, they're all in one piece, but are in desperate need of some care & attention if they're going to be any good for my kids??!

Helen.....

Worth having that lot Lozz..........even if you did have a wrong rellie...........lol
Thought I'd got all the really old photos, names and everything but when mum moved into the care home another boox appeared............for some reason she wants to hang on to them but when I've been through them with her and ask who they are (notepad at the ready) she says she don't know !!!! Well, she must do otherwise why hang on to them ? Maybe she can't be bothered...............I've pestered her that much over the years I bet she thinks every time I visit it's because I want to know yet more about Anutie wotsit or Uncle do dah !!!!

(AKA Mary)

How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards...
