Have you tried it yet or are you like most of us were - new to chatrooms?
Never entered one, nervous, not sure what to do? You are not alone!! It does take a lot to enter a chatroom for the first time and then it can be un-nerving when your in because every thing is strange. So, why not try it when it is empty or invite a moderator to come in with you to show you the ropes. Any member can enter the chatroom at anytime and you are not required to chat you may want to see how it works or if you will enjoy it. The best time to do this is when its empty, simply to get used to the chat/type screens and set your text/type colour. How to find and use the emoticons (smiley's) bold your text etc. This can be difficult when you feel under pressure to answer a question. Everyone in chat uses netiquette. You will be welcomed by others in the room as soon as you enter. If it is your first time...take your time...do not panic...nobody will rush you...you are expected to answer as soon as your ready simply to acknowledge the welcome....you only need to say, Hi!... until you feel ready to join in....the chatroom is used as a break from genealogy and chat can and is about anything it is normally fun, and you join in as you wish.... you will not be ignored...everyone is encouraged to join in...but it is not a requirement...except to acknowledge your presence or to say that you are leaving. To leave you are required to 'log-out' of the chat room, this is done by clicking the Logout Button at the top right of the chat screen, this is done to allow you the opportunity to re-enter during the day should you so wish. The most important thing to remember is that everyone will give you help...if your not sure ask! Last edited by Jon; 05-04-2006 at 02:09 PM. |

The important thing to remember is that we were all new to Chat once. Even the "Staff" were newbies once so please come and give it a try
