Can I just say that I'm a non-working mum, who walks her children to school & back everyday, I always have done. I think it helps the kids let off abit of steam before they enter the classroom & of course it's better for them. We have one of those fuel guzzling 4 x 4 people carriers - this is because we have 4 children, two are teenagers, plus up until recently we had to trail a buggy & baby stuff everywhere we went....the Shogun we have is not used as a status symbol but a practicality. When we go out as a family, we have to use either a people carrier or if not, we have to go in two cars, which incidently...we can't afford two cars like some families. Even if we could, I doubt that is a greener option!
![]() I do agree that the railways & canals should be used more efficiently for transporting goods, which might relieve some of the congestion on the roads...using the canals to move goods around the country is part of my family history with my mum's side of the family being Watermen in Goole. I also agree that every child should have a bike, for fun, for fitness & for promoting a 'greener' way of getting about. ![]() As for public transport, I don't know what it's like anywhere else, but buses around here don't need a conductor to control the kids... they need a security guard! Right, I'm done! Who's next??? ![]() |
