Unhappy Upsetting News

This morning my mother phoned me to let me know her
cat was at the vet's and was on a drip, the vet was going
to take a blood sample to see what was happening, later this afternoon my mother phoned me after the vet had phoned her to tell her that her cat has a brain tumor she phoned me for my advice as to what to do for the best. I told her that because of the symptoms the cat was showing
over Christmas and taking in the age of the cat It would be kinder to have the cat put painlessly to sleep, the vet told my mum the cat wasn't responding to the treatment, she keeps knocking her food dishes over and sleeps quite alot.
My mum is not at an age now where it would be viable for her to take in another kitten/cat. I guess now I'm going to scan a photograph of my mum's cat to add to the family tree.

Oh Pauline I'm so sorry. You're Mum will miss her cat no end. When our little dog had to be put down after an illness Bill found a nice photo of her and stood it by his bed and can you believe he gives the picture a soft touch and says goodnight.
I'm a cat person and would am always devastated if we lose one for whatever reason so I sympathise with your Mum. Maybe the cats protection have some older cats that would be easier for your Mum. It will take her a while though to get over losing this one.

As for pets on your family tree........well in my family tree folder I've got a whole section on family pets from the ones my gran had to the ones Ive got now, photos, date they arrive/left, where they came from. And why not.........they're part of the family aren't they

(AKA Mary)

How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards...

Hi Pauline,

I'm sorry to hear about your mum's cat, but I'm sure you made the best decision. It will take her a while to get over it but she will have her memories of all the antics it got up to when young.

Hi, thanks for your replies, yes my mum is taking it badly, but as I said to her the cat won't be suffering anymore. I got the kitten from my friend here in Nottingham and took her over to my mum's in Buxton,
I can remember my mum saying that she'd like a long coated kitten, and that was what she got, the only long coated kitten from a litter of five. so I guess the kitten
was destined to be with my mum. At least as you say my mum can look back and see photo's of the cat and think of all the comedy moments she had with her as she was growing up.

Pauline, I've only just read this thread and I'm very sorry for your mum. I've never had any pets so I can't imagine what it's like. At least the cat went peacefully, at least that's good.

Pauline,

Just wanted to say I have 2 cats myself, so I can imagine how your Mum must be feeling! As painful as it is, at least she knows in her heart she did the right thing. The pain we feel when grieving, is the heart's way of telling us how much love we had for that person, animal, etc - time is a great healer.

xx
