Default Increased Care Charges !!

Just got to say this cos I'm so mad !!
On the news this week there were items about two disabled people being cared for in their own homes, one by his wife,(with help from carers) the other by carers who called four times a day.
Lincolnshire County Council in it's infinite wisdom have decided that the cost for the care charges will be tripled !! Does that make sense cos it doesn't to me ! They say it's 'means tested' and those on low incomes will be assisted but honestly, it beggars belief that because someone works and saves hard , when the time comes is hammered for it.Whatever money he has will very quickly disappear into the council's coffers to be wasted on some useless project or other and then who pays for the care ? The state does so it's a false economy. Is this just a Lincolnshire thing or is it a nationwide concern ?

(Sorry just had to get on my soap box for a bit there)

Think its a national thing Mary!

I know of a friends Aunt, who's savings have been eaten away in care charges

In Sheffield at the moment there is an outcry over the demolition of Sheltered Housing accomodation. They propose to demolish over 270 sheltered properties over the next few years. The residents of these properties have an average age of 75

The Sheltered tower block near us is on the cards to be bulldozed. One resident in there is 101 this week, lol an she still got all her marbles!

Where will all these elderly people go???

There arent enough affordable housing for citizens in SHeffield as it is!?!?!

The mind boggles

When my Mum sold her house her care charges doubled because she'd got over the allowed limit of money. She had to spend it on things she could justify so we had to rack our brains a bit but we did and she's back to the previous level now thank goodness which is affordable. She needs to keep a certain amount by incase she needs to replace an armchair, buy a better wheelchair etc. I could better accept her care charges though as she has 24 hour care and a nurse in daily. I know she's well looked after.
The two cases mentioned on the local news this week were on chap who's wife cared for him and another who lived at home. The level of care was different to my Mums but the need was still there. What price caring I ask myself ?
