Smile Grandmothers Biscuit Tin

Grandmothers Biscuit Tin, you know the one, it may have once held Biscuits or even Toffees, but when it became empty, it was used to store family documents and the like.

Large ones, small ones even flat or tall ones....nearly every home had a special one. Maybe yours was Scenic views on the tin lid, or even a lovely Floral picture. I have some Royal Commemorate ones that my late Grandmother used. I think one was used as a Tea Caddy.

Another large round Toffee Tin, from years gone by, holds a multitude of Buttons, all shapes and colours.
Now the tins cover lids maybe fading but thats no matter as I keep special objects in one like....A Sea Shell from Scotland, also a wee Pine Cone, some shiney pebbles from Holy Island.....and a host of other items, each one can awake memories.

So hands up all members of Ancestry Aid, do you have your old Biscuit Tin Box?. And if you do what items do you keep in yours....blessings and (((((hugs)))))Summer

My biscuit tin holds buttons, zips cottons etc, I also use old biscuit tins to store some of my craft stock for my cards.

Ours is an old shoe box containing very old black and white photos of all my family, from both sides.

My Mum had a cardboard Tartan box in which she kept all the Birth/Death/Marriage certs and stuff. I remember the box from when I was a teenager and I suspect it was there before then. I am now the proud owner of the box. I inherited it and its contents (although I knew mostly what was in it ) when my Big Brother died last December. There were actually one or 2 things in it that I hadn't seen before or had been added since I last looked in it. I keep the box inside a box file to keep it safe and the contents of it are still there as everything in it is original. I use copies when I am doing stuff to my tree etc. Don't want to touch the old ones as they may spoil. There are things in there from the 1940's. ( 1840's) my mistake.......lol) I wonder how long the box will survive after I have gone...................bet my Mum didn't think it would last this long...........lol

Hello lizzanne, like you I have a few old tins, some with great pictures on the covers. I noticed a few Christmases ago that some of the larger Biscuit makers, have started using lovely tin boxes, one from last year I use for my threads.....cheers Summer
