G'day one & all. I should phrase that as "Good evening" from down under.
I reached my 73rd on Wednesday. I remember it, as some evil bliter started a war on my 4th birthday. This charactor destroyed the idyllic times we were living in, from which Britain of those times never recovered from. Our government lead by Joseph Chamberlain who, I believe was an indecisive leader. The man that took his place, Winstone Churchill was just the oposite; Forceful & persevering. A man that had already created history, & made many errors doing so. During the 2nd world war he was the man that Britain needed. Again making many errors, his leadership gave the British & the rest of Europe the will to defeat Naziism, with the aid of America. But, as in the previous great war the americans "Never give owt for nowt." Britain acheived her aims against Mr Hitler but, it left her just about impoverished. Britain showed its chagrin at the first post war elections by voting in Clement Attlee, leader of the Labour Party. From there on britain steadily went downhill. And today with Labour once again holding the reins the slide continues. So why does Australia follow suit ? I only wish I knew. As you know Australia now has a Labor (OZ spells Labour the same way as the Septics) government. Already we are adopting Britains failed policies. Are we then to follow Britain down the gurgler ? If anyone can make any sense out of world politics. Would they please give me some clues ! One more question. When & where did Multiculturism begin ? All the best Jimbo. (Now feeling much better with that off my chest.) We have to go to the polls tomorrow here in Western Australia. Should I do a "Donkey vote" ? |

First of all Jimbo, happy birthday for Wednesday, I hope you had a great day.
Now for a bit of a moan. Don't you dare run our country down. Why is it that outsiders always think Great Britain is a failed country? Yes, our politicians lie and cheat and make bad policies, but we vote them in. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you Australians vote? I should blame your countrymen for voting in a Labour government, mate. Which is exactly why we are blaming ourselves for voting in a Labour government. And incidently, nobody voted in Gordon Brown, he just took over, and that is the reason why he won't be the Prime Minister for much longer. There is a reason Britain is great: Because we know it is. Hi Jimbo,
I am not into politics these days. I have been watching a program though, where 25 families (one each day) are taken to Australia for a week to decide whether they want to move to the other side of the world. Quite a few decide to go but it is funny how when they look at houses for sale they belong to people returning to England, so it can't be so bad here. It used to be doctors and nurses that were wanted there but now the list is getting bigger. Today there was a shortage of butchers. Why aren't there enough people to fill the jobs over there or is it to do with the open plan houses having no internal doors ![]() |

You may or may not believe this but the same thing has happened again.
I logged in picked up my mail then went to the Coffee Room, to check my thread. Wrote another reply then, I clicked the post button. Wham ! Up comes that damn sign again. You are not logged in. I am still on line, I can't find my mail that I sent. So , if I am not on line why did I get the Welcome window etc. That's is twice in two days. That is enough for me. Jon & Starlight. Thankyou for the award. Do I get an increase in my frozen English pension ? Regards ..... Jimbo |
