Default Withering Heights !

Cathy cast her eyes across the moor, the dark clouds rolled by brushing the moor with a pallet of cold grey light. She pulled the cloak up around her head as shelter from the wind. Looking out across the bleak landscape of the moor her thoughts turned to the warm fire she had left behind. Soon she would be with her Heathcliff and the warmth of their passion would drive away the chill of autumn.

She took a deep breath and caught the smell of his body. She felt his arms pull around her holding her tight, protecting her from the wind. Oh, Heathcliff, Heathcliff, I love you. The words were said before she even knew she had said them and even though there was no one to hear her she felt embarrassed.

For a moment she was back in his cottage, in his arms, in his protection.

The cold rain started to drive against her face; a slap of reality waking from her dreams. The moor looked dark, it had a magnetic quality, drawing her on but not letting her know quite where she was going. The moor had kept many a secret and now it was keeping hers.

The small track lay out in front of her. The scene was so familiar, yet it kept something back. Cathy closed her eyes and turned her back to the wind. She thought back over the past weeks and months. For so long her life had seemed empty, but now all that had changed. She had Heathcliff and Heathcliff had her. Her life would never be the same again, nor would she.

Turning to face the rain, her heart leapt. Through the darkness she saw a silhouette; a silhouette so familiar that it seemed to reach out to comfort her. Even though this was the moment she had been waiting for she felt coy and awkward, she looked down and kicked her foot atthe ground. Time seemed to slow to a stop, even when the moment was this close it seemed to take forever to come.

Then at last she looked up, there, at last, all she had been waiting for, the cold, the rain, the wind were all forgotten. She thrust her arms out and took a step forward, a step to warmth and shelter.

No. No. No. Her cries were carried across the moor. The wind seemed to ¨call out with her. No. No. No. There was anger and fear in her voice. She hit out, her arms trying to make contact with the silhouette before her. Cathy gasped, she tasted blood in her mouth. No. No. No. The man looked straight at her. "Sorry love this bus is only going to the garage, there'll be another along in a minute".

How beautiful it is to do nothing and rest afterwards...
