What they gonna take away next? My right to breathe?
I can understand no smoking in places where food is eaten but in pubs they are really gonna feel the effect of this ban. I for one wont want to go in a pub and i can imagine locals wont want to go outside for a ciggie, we will see people out of jobs cause they wont have the custom to keep the pub open. I do believe there might be some uproar over this lol. Kelly (a smoker) |

what happened to this human rights stuff and freedom of choice ? I think its ok as it is.....most pubs/cafe's have smoking or non smoking areas.........some cafes are total non smoking zones anyway. Can see us all huddling in little groups/gangs on street corners puffing away..wearing hoodies of course............we'd probably get arrested for that. Or it would be a case of slipping quietly round each others house for an illicit fag................oh the worlds gone barmy.

I'm sure you're right Kim but how things are at the minute there is a choice for non smokers ...they don't have to be in a smoking environment -plenty of places offer either no smoking areas or are smoke free zones particularly where children are concerned. Our local has a 'smoke free' area and one pub in the town banned it a while back.
And if we all stopped smoking tomorrow think what a mess the treasury would be in with the money they glean from peeps like me. They'd just take it from somewhere else or spend less where its needed. |

The ban comes into effect in Scotland on 26th March. Personally I can't wait. I quit in October 2005 because my health was suffering and I was feeling more and more "out of touch" with current thinking. It's an addiction worse than heroin (medical fact) and what people forget about the ban is that it isn't about our "rights" or stuff, it isn't targetting individuals, it's about improving the nation's health and changing our culture. Our grandchildren won't believe it when they hear that we used to light up in bars and restaurants. I used to smoke in my office back in the 1970's and my kids don't believe it when I tell them! As an ex-smoker I remember feeling very threatened any time someone challenged my "right" to smoke. But that was the addiction speaking, not me. I'm glad the ban will be nationwide!!
