What a perfect world it would be if there wasnt ciggies or booze, but this isnt a perfect world and never will be.
If they was to ban smoking altogether, tell me how would they make up their shortfall? I know the tax payer will make it up as usual. As a matter of fact with this ban in pubs and clubs things will really change people dont want to go out for a good drink down local and then stand outside to have a smoke, I feel my civil rights have been taken away.
I now think we should get rid of all cars and buses, trains, and any of kind of thing that pollutes our breathing space, why is it that a child gets a severe bout of ashama its blamed on cigs Yes it does effect people and children alike but i dont think it can be the main cause. I dont smoke around people if they dont like it, i respect them, my nan is a non smoker but she allows us to smoke in her home but out of respect i dont.
My apologies to the person who mentioned heroine, give me a break lol i for one would rather my kids smoked now then to ever touch herion.
Sorry to waffle on and this is all just my humble opinion i respect everyone elses opinions even if i dont like them

I totally agree with everything you have said Kelly. As for Heroine and other addictive drugs they often prescribed and smoking can be a way forgetting the side affects and the reasons for taking these. Although I tried to give up smoking last year if anything this has made me give up the idea of trying to give up. I'll just stay at home.

how is this ban going to be policed ? We only have one policeman in town here and he's better employed trying stop other crimes than nipping in aand out the pubs (there are quite a few here) to see if a 'smoker' can be caught. I did hear they were hoping other people would do the 'policing ' for them and inform on anyone breaking this ban but I really can't see that working.
There are so many other ways of polluting the air. I never had any form of hay fever till I moved here - large farming community with endless crop spraying,& more cars on the road due to inadequate public transport.
We can never please all of the people all of the time and I respect thosewho are non-smokers and would not light up if it offended them.
And if alcohol was banned how many illicit bars would spring up overnight plus people creating their own 'stills'............the problems we have could get worse not better.

I think what people should remember and this is aimed at smoking and none smoking alike is that the government get more money from duty on ciggies then they spend in the national health service in treating people who smoke . so bareing that in mind what are they going to tax next to make up the money they loose on the ciggies?

Hmmmm...after my original ARGHHHH....Loz stands on her soapbox.....

Nicotine is not as addictive as heroin....heroin users suffer their cravings/fixes throughout a 24 hour period.........smokers do tend to have a proper nights sleep..without waking up craving the nasty nic!

I dont beleive there would be a total ban on the production or usage of tobacco...too much money is generated from the taxes. And i DO NOT beleive that ALL this money is ploughed back into the treatment of smokers only!

The rise in the number of childhood asthma cases has risen dramatically since the early 70's. Two possible causes of this...1) Asthma was not "readily" diagnosed many years ago, medics were loathe to diagnose it. (I grew up in a family where asthma is hereditary! Spent my school holidays in the Childrens Hospital, visiting my brother)
2) The number of cases steadily rose after the introduction of the modern "pushchair".....take a look next timeyu are out....babies and children are on the same level as the car/bus fumes!

Like Kells, I also respect the non-smokers. I will not smoke in my mums ouse or my MiLs'. If a non-smoker is in MY car i will not smoke.

A total ban on smoking, a total ban on alcohol, what next??? a total ban on pro-recreation??! Live a long healthy life........at what price?! lol

The health of the nation could be drastically improved by doing away with gm foods, pesticides, preservatives, additives etc etc. Lets rid of our freezers, junk foods, Mcdonalds KFC etc and go back to the "good old days" of real home made food.....make "wifey" stay at home an cook healthy meals from scratch!?!?!

Actually when I went to Dublin i was dreading the smoking ban......BUT it was very pleasant being in a full pub and being able to see the groups that were on...lol
No hazy fog, no watching for those fags that burn you as you walk past! I was quite happy to stand outside an have a ciggie.....pmsl gave me a 5 minute break from hubby!

I do think it will have an impact of the suburban pubs....as did all day drinking...butthe town centre pubs will survive...because people will still want to socialise

Loz now stands down from her soapbox..

PLEASE....challenge the statements and not me personally!! lol

So in effect pubs and other public places will be for no-smokers only. Do you think they might supply porta cabins outside pubs and restaurants and other places for us smokers to nip out for a fag, especially in the snow and wind and rain. Next thing the police will be moving us all on for loitering...........lol. I understand the concerns of non-smokers but we have rights as well...............don't we? No guess we don't but listen to this.........on Isle of Man they want to introduce it THIS SUMMER

This summer Mollie ?? Crikey that beach in Douglas will be full of folk puffing away.
Next it will be the 'public places' ban to be extended to pavements, footpaths etc. after all they are public places aren't they ?
Can't see it being a ban that can be enforced really -how would it be possible ?
