I remember trying to find his 1st marriage
Dont know what to suggest really, looking at the original registers would help but if you cant its going to be hard..Have you any siblings for him?
hi light no siblings im affraid tho ive got richard as a marriage witness to a marriage of a thomas moss to a elizabeth moss in 1834 in wybunbury so perhaps elizabeth was richards sister has thomas was from middlewich thanks anyway astwood![]()
I too have been searching for baptisms in Stockport and the staff of the Stockport Heritage Library told me that if the baptism wasn't in the St Mary registers it probably took place at Manchester Collegiate or Cathedral. Apparently the Cathedral is the mother church for St Mary Stockport so if you had a baptism done at St Mary you had to pay both St Mary and the Cathedral, therefore it was cheaper to have it done at the Cathedral and cut out the payment to St Mary. Hope you can understand that.
There is an extracted record on the IGI for a Richard Moss baptised 23 Sep 1804 at Manchester Cathedral, parents Thomas and Mary.
Hope this helps,
Emeltee
