I have been researching my husbands family and his G. Grandfather was James Kelly 1870 3 Charles Street Chester. I have found the family on the 1871 census living in Charles Street. John, James' father is down as ? (May be general) Foreman Engineering Establishment. I have been given information that in the Trade directory there is an entry next to John Kelly for Johnson and Ellington who apparently were an engineering company which later became Hydraulic Engineering Company which was near to where the Kelly family were living and they thought it likely that this is where John Kelly worked. I would like to find out more about the company if possible. Does anyone have any ideas? Julie

Hi Julie..
have found a link to a site that mentions this firm...only thing it looks as if it is a ppv site... http://www.atypon-link.com/ITELF/doi...otp.1915.16233 there is also reference made to the company here... http://www.steamindex.com/people/midland.htm looks like they may have been involved with the manufacture of steam locomotives. |
