Thread: Owen Kelly 10th foot

Hi there, I am hoping someone may be able to help, I have reason to believe this ancestor my g.grandfather was perhaps born in Annagh Co Cavan possibly Redhill[s], around 1840, he enlisted in the 10th foot - later became the Lincolnshire Regt.

married an Ann Mcguire not sure when . settled in Lincoln, lincolnshire.England,and after his discharge from the army becane a general labourer until his death in 1897 They had 8 children - only one born in Ireland, any help gratefully received

Hi there and thanks for your reply, it is a bit of a mystery isn't it, why join the 10th foot? He was enrolled in the 101st Cavan Militia in July 1857 no 1111 and was released in May 1858 to join the 10th foot, no 208 which it appears he joined the same day.He joined in Ireland, so I am not sure if the 10th foot wanted volunteers? I do not know anything at all about his parents or siblings, only that he married an Ann Mcguire, I know nothing about her either - even if she came from Co Cavan or a different county. I have not found a marriage cert which would help enormously with parents etc. Following his discharge from 10th ft he returned with family to Redhills? but had returned to England by 1885 at the latest.My grandmother was the only child to be born in Ireland, I tried for info at the GRO thinking she may have been borrn in Redhills or Cavan but alas have found nothing,
