    Default Elliot family

Am trying to find information on Margaret Elliot born Ireland about 1810. James Elliot (a shoemaker) is listed as her father on her 1874 DC in Glasgow. Catherine Reilly is listed as her mother. (Both deceased).

Have no other info on James and Catherine Elliot.

Margaret Elliot appears to have been married 3 times

1st William Hamilton 44th Regimet of Foot. Unsure if deceased or divorced from Margaret.
They had a son William Hamilton born about 1839 in Gibraltar.

2nd ????????? Duke - Margaret gave birth to Mary Ann Duke in Belturbet CAVAN about 1845

3rd Thomas Hunt married Margaret Duke in 1850 Cavan - Father listed as James Elliot.

Hoping someone with experience may be able to help me solve this mystery which I have been trying to do for three years - just about ready to give up.

I know from another post you made that the family are probably Church of Ireland. Your best bet is to get someone to check out the Belturbet Church of Ireland parish records. Their records of births and burials start in 1803, and marriages 1801. The parish is Annagh and the records are microfilmed at PRONI Belfast on MIC1/240. They are not on-line.

    Default Elliot family

    Thanks Elwyn

Should I contact PRONI to check the records for me? Do they have their own Researchers? I live in Australia so am unsure how it works.

    Cheers Kay

    Kay,

PRONI will do a limited amount of research for you. Details are on their website. They’ll look up a given baptism on a given date but probably won’t do a trawling search over a period of years. Hopefully that gives you the idea.

    www.proni.gov.uk/index/about_proni/freedom_of_information/proni_search_service.htm

There are details of independent professional researchers on their website too. Or you can send me a PM, and I’ll discuss whether I could help you too.
