    Default Margaret Conlon/Connelly a home child who came to Canada in 1913

    I am trying to find some information on my great grandmother who came to Canada in 1913. She was born in Scotland in 1899.

    Her name was Margaret Conlon/Connelly (Her parents didn't know how to read or write so her last name was spelt two ways) and she was a homechild who came to Canada in 1913.

    She was sent out to work in the Leeds & Grenville area (Possible Brockville). Being 14 she was sent to be a house maid. While her two little sisters were adopted to a good family. I am trying to find a Nominal Census - List of all persons living within a dwelling (house, institution, hospital, etc). That lists everyone in the home between 1913-1920.

    I like to know whom she may have been working for until she married my great grandfather in 1920.

    We believe she may have worked for a woman named Julia Brown, whom lived in Leeds & Grenville area. This woman was a witness at my gt-grandma's wedding.

    My gt-grandma sadly passed away in 1926 of a brain tumor. So what happened between 1913-1920 when she married my gt-grandfather is unknown. I am hoping someone may come across this board who might recognize her name as a home child who came to work for their relatives.

    Hi canadiangirl;
    Here are some links you should check out. On the Collections Canada page if you click on one of the names, you get a detailed report, look at the category 'party'. From there I found other links, of particular interest to you should be the Quarrier link. You should contact them, they keep records much like the Dr. Bernado Homes did. You should be able to find out who Margaret was sent to as well as who took her sisters.

    Thanks for your help. I pretty much got all that information. Sadly she came over to Canada with her two little sisters who were adopted by a really good family. Margaret being 14 was considered an adult and was sent out for services. Her sisters children who are still alive today don't know who she was working for as their mothers never really spoke of her after she died.

    They only really know whom she married and met him a few times and of course knew Margarets children (my grandfather and uncle).
