Still searching for birth details and parents of William Woodruff (Woodroffe) born Glossop, Derbyshire c 1833, Soldier in 2nd Batt 3rd Regt of Foot (The Buffs).
Hi Calmar,
I don't know if you are aware of a site called Freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ (part of the freegenuk set of websites- It allows searches of bmd's from 1837-1983, not all entries are typed up on the database. But they are continuously adding new entries everyday.
They also have freecen http://www.freecen.org.uk/ which has 1841-1891 census.
For parish records you can check freereg http://www.freereg.org.uk/
IGI ran by the Church of latter day saints have information of births, marriages and christenings http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp
I'm only a newbie to this world, but these 4 sites have been a great help in my search!

Hi Calmar;
The Canadian privacy laws prevent any information on BMD for a period of time.
In British Columbia for example; Birth records are 100 years, Marriage records 75 years and Death records 20 years.

Hi Calmar,
Don't give up![]()
We may not be able to access BDM's online, but there are other ways to find information![]()
Like newspaper BDM announcements, cemetery transcripts, city directories and things like this.
If you'd be willing to post some information, maybe some of us in Canada could help.

To you good folks in Canada --is it possible when you have time to look up a marraige for me--that of Charles H.J. Clutton.
His marraige was probably somewhere in Canada between 1930 & 1945. He had a child born during that time too.
Thank-you very much.
There are some bmds from Ontario on A......y.com including Catholic records (the Drouin collection)

Hi gbiscuits;
I did a search on the online Canadian Telephone directory Canada411 and there are only 39 listings in all of Canada for CLUTTON, with a population of about 30 million, 39 is a rare name. There are addresses listed, so perhaps you could write a few letters, pen to paper, the old school way! I'd say that with that few listings they are all most likely related, with the heaviest concentration in Ontario the concentrations are as follows;
by Province AB (14), BC (3), ON (21) and YT (1).
I hope this helps.
