Unfortunately none of them are mine, that I know of, although it is a co-incidence that there is a Minnie here as well. The one I am looking for would have come from England or Wales sometime before 1928 to SA. He married Minnie Paikin here in SA. His name was David. They were both of "advanced" age when they married, so I doubt whether there were any children from the marriage. I am trying to find out if he had another family before he came to SA. He would have been born around 1875 and he is listed with his father Lewis and his brother Abraham in the 1891 census for llanelly Breconshire.

I just cannot Find David after 1891 when he is with his father and Abraham his brother. Abraham marries and can be easily traced but David just seems to disappear. He may have left the Uk soon after his father's death unless he is still in Wales but his name has been mistranscribed.

I have record of David (and his wife) throught the Estate Notices and Chevra Kadisha Burial Society, he seems to be just "here" when his nephews Lionel and Harris arrived in about 1928 as they list him as their destination. Have no idea how to find when and where he came to SA. I have his passport no but do not now if it a UK or SA one.

Though I can't find him others may be able to. I think he left uk and could have gone anywhere. USA or Canada. Then entered SA from there... but prob came to SA from UK as there was an organisation that arranged this. I do not have World A******* sub so cannot see those who left UK. He was alreday in SA before his nephews went out in the 1920's or whenever.

With regard to Lewis and his sons, I had the opportunity to look at the transcript of the 1891 census ( courtesy some free credits from a site) and see that they were boarding, Lewis gives his status as Married and all of them list their language as English. All of their occupations are given as "traveller". I am confused as to the language being English as they do not seem to have been in the country for that long, where would they have learnt it? If he is married, where is his wife? Where have they been, could they have come from the USA? There are more questions than answers, as the song goes.

I have found on igi A David Pallett (born 1850 in Russia ) marrying an Annie in 1880 in Russia and they have two children; Louis Pallett march 1886 Russia and Jennie Pallett christened May 1881 Russia. These are submitted records. No further details. It is possible this David may be brother to your Lewis

Thanks so much, will definitely try the site you suggest. I am not sure if this is family as they mention a christening and my lot were Orthodox Jews, but will definitely file it away amongst my "maybies and possibles". You never know. Sooner or later the breakthrough will come. I have found out more in the last week with the help of everyone here than in the last 3 years of searching!!!!!!
