    Default Place Names

I have found the following place names on a birth certificate from Ayr, dated 1723 but cannot correctly decipher some of them. Can anyone help please?
    Holmstoun; Marrowholm?? Makons--ston; Burrows...old.
I've done a few searches and found only Holmstoun or Holmstown.
It was for Elizabeth Hud born to James and Elizabeth Hud nee Murdoch on 8 May 1723.
I can email an enlarged printscreen of the image if it would help.
    Thanks

    Hi!

    How about these for potentials:

Holmestoun - Holmston (toun/toon being town as is ton)

    Marrowholm - Mainholm

    Mokons..toon - Monkton

All above very near to Ayre

    Burrows...old - no suggestions!

If you want to email or post the image I would be happy to take a look. PM me and I will let you have my email address.

Also, you may want to check out this Ordnance Survey map from 1800's of Ayreshire: http://maps.nls.uk/os/view/?sid=74488585

    Default Thanks

Thanks, Rubina. I'll have another look at the link you sent. Have sent the bulk of my copy to the printer to see how it looks so will add these names when I've checked them out. I feel quite lost now I am finally coming to the end of it all. I saw a good programme on Tasmania and recognised all the historical places visited in the south. Even saw someone named Unsworth - Rubina Johnston married an Unsworth. Felt so familiar seeing places I have learnt so much about. Might go over for a visit next year.
