ann dennis is arthurs mother,she remarried! dont know why?dont know arthurs father!!im trying to trace back info on arthur!! thanks

You say you don't know why Ann Dennis remarried. Divorce was pretty well unknown in Ireland in the mid 1800s. I think you can safely assume Ann's first husband died, presumably around the late 1840s. Since death registration didn't start till 1864 in Ireland, you are unlikely to find a record of his death, unless you get a gravestone.

The first marriage would also have been before the start of statutory registration. It was traditional to marry in the wife's church, you'd need to know Ann's exact religion and townland and then check parish records. Copies of the surviving parish records are generally held in PRONI Belfast.

could there be a mistake and arthur should be son in law not step son? would this open any new doors?
