    Hi hazel

been out all today so far and only just got back in so not looked again yet. i always understood the family was from amlwch from well back and would be suprised to find them anywhere else but you never know. i visited relations in amlwch and some still live there today.

as i said william is my direct ancestor and he died n the wirral in 1930 aged 57 as is stated on death notices etc. giving date of birth 1873 . as he is not on census with family in 1871 i am inclined to believe that. unfortunately there seems to be loads of williams born anglesey right timeframe. i think i am going to make a list of all willliam griffith/griffiths born 1872 - 1874 anglesey and see how many that brings up and perhaps send off for some certs.

i have never been able to find a marriage for him either ( but that is another long story ) he left amlwch to go to work in mines in south wales as work was scarce. he took his younger brother david owen aged 16 with him against his fathers wishes and unfortunately david owen was killed in Albion mine disaster of 1894. david was the apple of his father johns eye and john never forgave william for taking him away. this , along with his fathers remarriage , led to william leaving anglesey for the wirral. he next appears in 1901 married to grace and i can follow him from then on. i dont have him in 1891 so dont know where he was then.

william is down as married to grace in 1901 but we dont think they ever did. we have never found a marriage between them.

my g grandmothers birth cert say mary catherine griffiths born 1898 parents william griffths and grace formerly edwards. now that was a bit of a shock because all her grand daughters thought it was hughes and looking on the birth indexes for the births of the 5 siblings born after maiden names were added all give hughes as the maiden name. now she is the eldest sibling( well sort of - see below) so it is possible that grace was married to an edwards and perhaps that is why william and grace never married, but never found a likely marriage for edwards. also in the family are many stories about grace hughes born newborough and her family and it all fits in with grace hughes found in the census in wales.

william and grace did have a child before mary catherine and named her grace . apparently she only lived for about 3 weeks. i have looked for a birth and death for her under griffiths and edwards but nothing conclusive - some sort of possibles, but it is difficult when not sure of birthplace but would be very surprised if it was anywhere other than anglesey, liverpool or wirral .
