Thread: AA's Gedsearch System

Jon here, using Kelly's account.



I have been working on the up-coming Gedcom search system and am very pleased to announce some of the features it will include:

• Upload your gedcom file at anytime. If you update your gedcom you can re-upload it and erase all previous information. This allows you to keep an up to date file in the database.
  
• Search the gedcom database by use of a simple surname or use an advanced search form for more accurate and narrowed down results.

Search Results:

• Paginated results of you general searches.
  
• The facility to click on certain icons to gain even more information relevant to the person you searched. This will include being able to view the record of their mother as well as their father.
  
• The facility to view the persons husband/wife if in the gedcom file.
  
• The facility to contact the owner of the gedcom file via the private messaging system.

The sytem is potentially going to be a very handy tool. It could be said that it will be a very simplified version of a tree maker but is for searches only.

This really is going to be an asset for the site and I look forward to seeing just how many of our members upload their files.



Work on the system has now been put on hold due to my time away but will resume on my return. The system is due to launch at latter end of the year along with all the other updates that are planned for AA.

I like the idea of being able to use the PM system for contacting other members. Will it be possible to opt out of using emails for contact ?

This system will use your site profile. Therefor, if you have opted NOTto receive emails from members then thats how the system will see it. PM only.
