    Default Database for M.I.'s

    Hi Jon

Would it be possible to have a seachable database for Memorial / Grave Inscriptions??

I know theres a thread for it.....(which i'll add to later! ) but I thought it might be useful to have a searchable one, as peeps may not scroll through the older posts!?!?!

Headings such as: Obviously Name!! Birth Death Name of Cemetry, Location of Cemetry and perhaps "Inscription" or OTHERS Buried in same plot??? lol get me drift??

    Thought it might prove useful

    Hi Lozzie,

The forum already has a search facility. At the top of each formum there is " Search this forum". If you add the name or word of interest to that search engine, if it is there you will be able to go straight to it.

    Hi Star

Yes I know but what I was thinking was a Database...on similar lines to tree searches...a more prominent search facility....

Although the threads are searchable..they arent Databases'

    Just an idea.....

    Hi Loz,

This is an idea I am quite interested in. I will talk to Kelly and Chris about it and let you know.

If it does happen it wont be untill the other updates happen, but I do feel pretty strongly about it. Good idea.

    Kindest regards

    OK,

I have spoken to the other owners about this and we think it is a very good idea.

However, we would simply like to be sure that everyone else would be keen to make this work also. I.e would you be willing to transcribe the grave stones and email your transcriptions to Chris who will inturn apply them to a format for me to upload to a seperate database.

Our worry is that we dont want to go to all the hard work of creating such a system if it is not going to be used as we would all like it to (such as the Vital Records databases). Many hours of work go into creating a system like this so i'm sure you can appreciate that we just wish it to be used effectively.

If so, we are more than happy to go ahead with this.

    Kindest regards

    Hi Jon

Can understand that! Would it be possible to place a "sticky" and ask peeps to email you grave transcriptions from now....until say end of year and see what the response is??

If you feel that there are ebough to implement the system, then go ahead.....or if a low response...then scrap the idea??!!?!?

I appreciate that the system will only be as good as the effort members put into it, and though we are all busy with our own geno work AND normal work and life......a little effort from everyone could create a wonderful source of information.

Whilst the Graveyard Look up request thread is useful...and people are willing to search for specifics...maybe they could transcribe these graves as an ongoing project??!! lol just a thought!

    Totally agree Loz,

We will see how many records are collected and, like you said, we will go from there to see if it worth creating the system.

Chris awaits the records from you all.

    Regards
